So many words, so many years
All the memories I kept near
The feel of dirt beneath my toes
The smell of grass that's freshly mowed
A stubble kiss, a raspy laugh
So many times that's come to pass
A spirit that will live right on
even though his life is done
And as his memory started to go,
I would say, "It's okay, Grandpa...I know..."
A man with strong tanned arms,
that would never let me come to harm
That would keep my daddy right at home
That would never let me go
He may be gone, but I'll never forget,
all the things that Grandpa meant.
The taste of strawberries from the field
A great big family Christmas meal
A walk to Grandpa's on Sunday
The southern cornbread that Grandma made
Sitting out on the front porch
Growing up more and more
A redneck family strong and proud
A heart that's love was oh so loud
A kindness that reached out to all
That man was my grandpa
