Memories by First Fool 11/14/08

Under these stars, when I was a lad

My chores done I’d wait on my dad

I’d race him, trying to match is stride

Somewhere I grew up, somehow he died

Now under stars not as grand

With this great loss I now stand

Missing a man from who I was begot

Memories, what I want they’re not

But they are all I got

A sudden breeze sends me his scent

My eye corner catches a familiar glint

He’s close and I try and of wish him near

The spell is broke by my first tear

His presence from this world fades away

Leaving me the dust of yesterday

I feel his laugh just beyond ear shot

Memories, what I want they’re not

But they are all I got

No grave could hold that much I know

As my tears distorts the moon’s glow

It will be with his will and God’s grace

But I know I’ll again find his embrace

I’m left with my loss and the night’s view

Missing a love greater than I knew

A love that will not be forgot

Memories, what I want they’re not

But they are all I got

I enjoyed the rythem of this poem and I know the sadness of not finding what you need, like wanting something you know you can not find, but you keep looking anyway.
