Ode to a Code (Ode to a Cold)

Like a dandelion seed invades my yard

I hardly noticed you till I sneezed hard.

Then came a tickle, more loud sneezing,

That continued, it was quite a breezing!

Then around my eyes I started to bloat,

Then came dryness that grew in my throat,

Till it was like swallowing a razor blade,

Then came the temperature that you made.

Till I was flat on my back with your fever,

Trying every kind of drug and reliever.

But you have to be very easy to bore,

Cause the fever broke after day four.

Then a new symptom from you begun,

And my nose started to run and run.

Till it looked like it snowed Kleenex.

I give you credit, you’re quite a hex.

I found my balance after day five,

And realized I was going to stay alive.

I don’t know or care where you went,

But couldn’t you pay me a little rent.

After all the pain to me you gave,

Don’t you owe me at least a wave?

Even a hitch hiker thanks for the ride

Before finding another vehicle to get inside!
