Respect For God

Many a man and woman God has joined

vows were exchanged,

rings symbolize their commitment

and children and a home proved it.

Like God had an unfinished thought

there once was a rock.

The greenness on its shade side

showed no fear of exposure.

Its color and stance suggested pride.

The cycle of countless seasons

had turned a crack into complete separation,

around its skirt lay fallen flakes

like chicks around the hen.

The divide was wide enough

for a curious child to slip between.

Yet it still held the personality

of a single entity.

This rock had witnessed a deer trail

turn into a Indian path,

hence the road name of Indian Trail,

which the new state graveled

and the county finally paved.

The prospect of profit from a cold town

brought a company down beside the road,

trenching a gas line into the ground.

The flakes were buried in deep ruts.

The two parts of the old rock were moved

till they were just boulders

The man and wife divorced,

dividing union, children and home

Man cares little about God’s unfinished thoughts,

and even less about any promises made to God!
