Aunt Ida
So rare a person
So beautiful know
So giving and loving
And hard to let go
Aunt Ida could sing
Although not well
But no one would tell her
So sweet was her spell
A diamond her heart
Shined even in the rain
Her eyes full of wisdom
Yet never complained
Her kitchen had special seats
Made only for children
Waiting for chocolate treats
Signs read no adults allowed
My parents would smile
With thoughts they were keeping
Yet all the while
They wished she were sleeping
How many, I do not know
Of the tears she wiped
Or the scrapes she healed
With pie alamode
Aunt Ida had secrets
A few she told
Most she kept
To help us grow old
